WP2 Interconnect Materials & Coatings

Work package 2 works on the selection and development of combinations of interconnect materials and contact coatings. For the interconnect steels the focus is on commercially available, mass manufactured, cheap steels. Contact coatings are considered an indispensable element for achieving sufficient mechanical and electrical contact between interconnect and cell. Secondly coatings are required for blocking the Cr evaporation from the interconnect steel which will adversely affect the performance of SOFC cathodes. Since the interaction of steel and coating(s) largely determines the properties, these two components are developed jointly developed.
