Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique (CEA)
The Commissiriat a l’Energie Atomique (CEA) with about 15000 employees, is a French public, technical and scientific research establishment. It is organized in four main fields of activity. The Nuclear Research and Development Department, which gathers about 4500 operational persons, and the Defence Department, which gathers 4600 persons, constitute the original heart of CEA. In addition, 2700 persons are involved in Fundamental Research, mainly on physics and living sciences, and 1200 persons are doing R&D work in the Department dedicated to Research and Technologies for Industry. These four departments are distributed across 9 research centres in France, each centre being focused on one main topic related to Nuclear R&D (3), Defence (4) or R&D for Industry (2). Owing to its position of major national technological research institute, CEA has been commissioned by the French government to build and achieve a program on New Technologies of Energy. This program, involving today about 250 researchers is managed by the department of R&D for Industry and organized according to three main axes: (1) Hydrogen and fuel cells (mainly PEMFC and SOFC). (2) Photovoltaic and energy storage (3) Energy Effi-ciency.
