Institut de Chimie de la Matière Condensée de Bordeaux (ICMCB) (CNRSBX) The Bor-deaux Institute of Condensed Matter Chemistry (ICMCB), a CNRS Institute, was established in 1995 and located within the Bordeaux I University Campus. ICMCB has engaged in basic re-search in the field of advanced materials working in three complementary disciplines: Solid State Chemistry, Materials Science and Molecular Sciences. The scientific strategy of the ICMCB, which is based upon an integrated approach, involves a large multidisciplinary field: (1) Synthe-sis of novel compounds with specific properties (inorganic, organic-inorganic hybrids, molecular materials). (2) Implementation of new techniques for the shaping of materials, (monodispersed powders, ceramics, crystals, thin films, glasses, nano-composites, composites). (3) Chemical re-activity of supercritical media and dense fluids under pressure. (4) Prediction of macroscopic properties of inorganic and/or molecular materials (numerical simulation, methods derived from quantum chemistry, etc.). Main relevant current studies: study of the nano-structure of materials, study of the physical chemistry of surfaces and interfaces in close connection with a better under-standing of chemical reactivity, study of the molecular parameters and crystal structure which rule the cooperative phenomena in molecular materials, quantitative, theoretical and experimen-tal study of chemical bonding to characterize the nature and energy of electronic states in mo-lecular, covalent, metallic, ion- covalent and ionic solids, development of in-situ methods of characterization.
